As artists and performers, many of the drag queens who work with this organization have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of important public health measures, regular gigs and performances are being canceled, including children’s story hours. Drag performers, like many in this economy, are suddenly facing the loss of income they rely on to pay bills and survive.
You can help support these artists while promoting empathy and self-expression by offering a livestream storytelling for your employees and their children. During the event, a drag performer trained by children’s librarians will read picture books, sing songs, and do movement activities in the online version of the organization’s popular drag queen storytelling program. This fun and fabulous literary experience emphasizes learning and play, encouraging kids to celebrate gender diversity and all kinds of difference, while building confidence in expressing themselves.
During the holiday season, this experience will feature a winter-themed story hour that focuses on the winter solstice and other holidays during the month of December.
